Alizé Rose-May (1990) and AvoAnna Marcus (*1989) collaborated as a duo (fka MONOD_MARCUS) from 2017 to 2021. Their work is shaped by queer feminist concerns and practices, leaving space for experimentation, diverse materialities, and various possibilities of form-making.
Within artistic practice—encompassing video, photography, objects, research, curation, and teaching—Alizé Rose-May (ARM) explores relationships, concepts such as kinship and family, tradition, connections, collectivity, and fabulative spaces of togetherness. ARM's interest lies in archives, the gaps in historiography, and the question of how communal living is possible. ARM addresses queer aspects of everyday life and brings overlooked stories to the forefront by employing queer semiotics and a vocabulary of intimacy.
Avo*Anna Marcus (AAM) pursues queer feminist practices within the resonance space between art, curation, and mediation. AAM works with various media, including video and photography, as well as digital collages and conceptual, performative, and sculptural approaches. Thematically, AAM's work—both abstractly and concretely—often revolves around questions of gender, body, trauma, space, and accessibility within social structures. Cyber-, techno-, and eco-feminist theories increasingly influence AAM's practice.
